ICM UW Implements Project within the Governmental Strategic Program Hydrostrateg

ICM (Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling) has received funding from Poland’s National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) for the project titled “System for Optimization of Current Operations of Combined Sewer and Stormwater Networks for Extreme Events (SOBEK).”

A New Perspective on Memory Mechanisms

A paper titled “Spatio-temporal mechanisms of consolidation, recall and reconsolidation in reward-related memory trace” by researchers from the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology, Polish Academy of Sciences (IBD PAN), and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling, University of Warsaw (ICM UW), has been published in the prestigious journal “Molecular Psychiatry.” The scientists discovered how the brain organizes and consolidates reward-related memories. The results have practical significance for addiction research.

The National Cloud Infrastructure for Open Science is Being Established

ICM UW, together with ACK Cyfronet AGH and WASKO S.A., will build a cloud infrastructure that will enable the implementation of R&D work conducted according to the Open Science paradigm. The infrastructure will be developed as part of the project “National Cloud Infrastructure PLGrid for EOSC – PLGrid ICON” funded by the National Recovery Plan. A significant part of the investment will be the purchase of new cloud clusters, which will be launched at the ICM UW Data Center in Warsaw.

Top Disruptors in Healthcare 2024

During the June AI & MEDTECH CEE conference, a new report titled “Top Disruptors in Healthcare – A Review of Medical Start-ups in Poland and Central Europe” was presented. Both initiatives have been supported by the patronage of ICM UW for four years. This year’s list includes 194 companies, including Smarter Diagnostics – a spin-off from the University of Warsaw, originating from the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling (ICM UW).

OPEN — a new version of the Repository of Open Scientific Publications

A new version of the national repository of scientific publications, previously known as the CeON Repository, is now available to users. The revamped service, operating within the Open Science Platform of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling (ICM) at the University of Warsaw, has been renamed to the “Repository of Open Scientific Publications OPEN”. The service attracts over two hundred thousand users annually.

MOSAIC project at MediLabSecure Global Meeting in Paris

Dr. Aneta Afelt spoke at the MediLabSecure global conference in a roundtable dedicated to the impact of the One Health concept on national health strategy. The meeting, held at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, focused on regional and multisectoral collaboration to improve global health.

An introduction to physics-informed neural networks (PINNs)

In May, Center4ML (Faculty of Physics) and ICM UW jointly organized a workshop within the EuroCC2 project, titled “ML Workshop: Physics-Informed Neural Networks and Neural Operators”. Recordings from this event are available on our YT channel.

ICM UW in the international consortium MOSAIC

Fifteen institutions from seven countries – France, Poland, Portugal, Kenya, Brazil, the USA, and Colombia – will implement the MOSAIC project starting from the new year. The project focuses on open, multimodal, and replicable information ecosystems supporting cross-border communities. MOSAIC is simultaneously the first initiative in Poland under the ‘Horizon Europe’ framework that addresses environmental aspects of epidemiological threats.

ICM University of Warsaw among EOSC public tender winners in Horizon Europe project

The European Commission’s DG Connect revealed the winners of the public procurement tender titled “Managed Services for the European Open Science Cloud Platform (EOSC)” published under the Horizon Europe Research Infrastructures Work Programme 2022. ICM University of Warsaw is a member of the Open Science Agora Consortium providing professionally managed services for the core components of the EOSC EU Node.

The ICM UW Scientific Conference 2023

The ICM Scientific Conference 2023 took place on November 29-30, 2023. The event showcased selected projects of High-Performance Computing (HPC) users and achievements of the Interdisciplinary Center for Mathematical and Computational Modeling (ICM) in the field of large-scale computations and educational activities.
